The Winter coughs and colds toolkit

For those of us in the chilly northern hemisphere, I wanted to share my go-to toolkit for avoiding colds, coughs, and the flu. I’ve found it’s the best way to keep illness at bay, especially when everyone around you seems to be dropping like flies.

First, I pay attention to any early symptoms—unexplained fatigue, feeling overwhelmed, heightened emotions, or a tight throat. If I notice these signs, I take action right away.

Here’s what I do for a cough or cold:

  1. Vitamin D3 & K2: I take a generous dose of 30,000 IU for three days, combined with some healthy fats like nuts, seeds, avocado, or cheese. Any less won’t really kickstart the immune system.
  2. Zinc Picolinate: I take 30 mg, one in the morning and one at night, for three days. Zinc helps support your immune function.
  3. Liposomal Vitamin C: I take 2,000 mg on an empty stomach first thing in the morning, 2,000 mg before lunch, and 1,000 mg before my evening meal (or with a light snack). Liposomal Vitamin C is more easily absorbed, sadly more expensive but helps combat illness quickly.

This protocol usually wipes out any potential cold. If I get a sore throat, it typically clears up overnight without progressing further. The goal is to boost the immune system quickly and get on top of it before it escalates and it needs therapeutic doses to achieve this.

Physically, I also support my body with infrared saunas and cold plunges once a week (if I can). I listen to my body to gauge whether it feels right, but I aim for a quick 60-second cold plunge, which has proven to be a powerful immune booster. Over the past few weeks, it’s been incredibly refreshing!

Take care and stay healthy!
